Businesses identify over £200,000 of savings with help from Business Energy Efficiency programme

Small and medium sized businesses across the region have identified £235,506 in potential cost savings which could be made by improving their energy efficiency.

Since spring this year, the Business Energy Efficiency (BEE) programme has supported 36 SMEs in identifying reductions which could be made to cut costs and carbon. Alongside the identified cost savings, the businesses supported could also make 934 tonnes of potential CO2 reductions by taking steps to improve their energy efficiency. The savings are the equivalent of 278 flights from London to Sydney.

With funding secured from the European Regional Development Fund, BEE takes eligible businesses through a review process which helps to identify energy saving opportunities. Businesses can then invest in capital projects that implement energy efficiency measures, with grants available up to a maximum of £20,000.

Antony Gough, BEE Project Manager, said: “We are really pleased that in the first few months of working with businesses we have already identified over £200,000 of savings that could be made by businesses working in a more energy efficient way.

“Our funding pot is limited and only available for a fixed period of time. I’d urge businesses to get in touch and find out if they are eligible sooner rather than later, so they don’t miss out on the chance to benefit both their bottom line and impact on the environment.”
