Energy Efficient Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre Receives £18,000 Grant

Cambridge Sports Centre Kelsey Kerridge recently welcomed members of the Business Energy Efficiency (BEE) programme to mark their efforts to reduce energy use.

The Centre, which offers a wide range of sports activities including a very popular climbing wall, asked BEE to conduct an energy efficiency review to help them identify potential energy saving measures that could deliver cost reductions.

A site visit from a BEE advisor confirmed that the replacement of the existing lighting with LED lighting would improve efficiency and result in significant cost and carbon savings.

Kelsey Kerridge received a grant from the BEE programme of over £18,000 to replace the main sports hall lighting with LED alternatives. Due to the size and nature of the site, the Centre can expect to see a considerable reduction of almost £17,000 per annum in energy costs, representing a saving of almost 50%, as well as estimated carbon savings of 67 tonnes. In addition, the LED lighting has also provided a better quality of light for the sports hall, enhancing the user experience.

Commenting on receiving the grant, Liane Shadrack, Manager at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre said, “We are really pleased with the improvements made to our main hall lighting, which can also lead to significant cost and carbon savings. BEECP were on hand throughout the Grant application, which made the whole process very straight forward.”

Since the Business Energy Efficiency (BEE) programme launched in Spring 2017, the programme has supported over 180 SMEs, identifying cost savings of over £1.1million and potential carbon reductions of over 6,000 tonnes.

Using funding secured from the European Regional Development Fund, BEE offers a free energy efficiency review to help small and medium sized enterprises identify cost and energy saving opportunities. Businesses who look to invest in capital projects to improve energy efficiency can access a grant scheme offering up to £20,000 in financial support.

Grant funding is available for a number of measures including; LED Lighting; Heating & Cooling; Insulation; Solar PV & Battery Storage; and Electric Vehicles.

The project is being delivered by the environmental charity PECT, in partnership with NWes.
